Is it true? Has September come to an end already!? Time flies when you’re having fun. Here are some highlights from the Robins’ class this week…

As you may know, we’ve talked a lot about friendship and how to be a good friend throughout the month of September. This week, we asked the Robins to draw what friendship meant to them. Look for these on display soon in the middle room.

After reading the book, Corduroy, we designed our own teddy bear friends.

We have been gearing up for learning our alphabet by allowing the Robins plenty of time to explore centers that are designed to encourage pre-writing skills.

Here we are tracing various letters in salt trays…

As we mentioned in a previous post, play dough offers so many benefits to preschool aged children. Play dough can be an important part of pre-writing because it encourages fine motor control and strengthens the little muscles in our hands that we will need for learning to write.

We continued beading this week, which is another great way to strengthen those muscles. By providing each kiddo some beads with the letters in their names on them, we were able to also use this as a name recognition activity.

The Robins have also had lots of opportunities to explore some beginning number/math concepts. This particular activity helps us to gain number awareness, an understanding of one-to-one correspondence, and numeral recognition.

We introduced the arming tray, which allows the Robins to make their own creative works of art by melting crayons.

The Robins are excited about books!

This week we learned a poem and some new signs (Mom, Dad, Thank You, & Glad) to go along with it. We incorporated a written version of the poem into an art project using body cut outs and paint dabbers. Ask your Robin to show you the signs they’re learning at home.

Circle time is truly the heart of our day. One day this week, the Robins worked together on an alphabet puzzle.

This week we played a game where the children took turns crawling under the parachute while another child played a bongo drum. The child underneath had to really use their listening ears to figure out where the sound was coming from. The Robins loved it!

How many is 100? After reading the book, One Hundred Hungry Ants, the Robins used unfix cubes to find out.
