What fun!! We introduced a new song, “Sitting On The Farm” sung by Bob King. Miss Ginger acted out the song with a bug, frog, snake, rat, cat, dog, bear and telephone. All the Bluebirds became involved in the song and also were able to hold an animal or two as they sang. Some even had telephones to use. The first few lines are as follows:
Sitting on a farm, happy as can be, I had a little bug on my knee. I said, ‘Mr. Bug get off my knee.’ That old bug said, “No siree.” So I picked up the telephone, called my friend the
frog at home. I asked if he would like some lunch. The frog came over and MUNCH, MU NCH, MUNCH!
While singing this song, the children were learning sequence, sharing, memorization skills, and rhyming and sound patterns to enhance reading skills. I found another version on You Tube. You can listen to it at www.youtube.com by looking up “Sitting on a farm (english)”
We read a fun book called “Arlo Needs Glasses”. It was a great manipulative book that the children all loved because they were able to pull tabs and put different glasses on Arlo the Dog. We practiced taking turns and being very careful while handling this great library book.
Weren’t you impressed by the Arlo dogs that the children made? I especially liked the little whiskers that were drawn on Arlo’s face. Those same pencil strokes will be used when we learn to make the letter “L” very soon.
Miss Katie and I practiced introductions with the Bluebirds. We would extend our right hand and say something like: “Hi, my name is Miss Katie.” The children would respond with, “My name is ________.” And we would reply, “Nice to meet you.”
We are emphasizing the use of our right hands, looking others in the eye and using good manners.
October 1 is the first day that we will walk to Naydenov for our gymnastics lesson. We practiced walking safely by using our special rope with individual handles. This will help us to stay together as a group and promote safety for all the children.
What fun!! The children slide down the hill on the half circle mats. Others hold hands and slide down together. What a special time of team work, balance skills and muscle coordination.
It is exciting to teach your children at Kidspace! I do enjoy them each and every day. Thank you for sharing them with me!
