CHICKADEES – All About Apples

The Chickadees had lots of fun with apples as they learned and played the week of October 1-5.  Check out some of the great activities we did.

Apple Art Projects

Apple Prints: Using an apple cut in a half horizontally we stamped red, yellow and green apples on a strip of paper.

Tissue Paper Collage Apples:
The kids glued green, yellow, and pink tissue paper to paper apples and made some really beautiful and unique apples.

Apple Math and Small Motor Skill Practice
For one of our centers the kids were given an apple tree with 10 pom pom apples on it and a pair of tweezers.  They had to work their pointer finger and thumb hard to “pinch” the apples off the tree and put them in the basket.   It was great practice for counting and holding their writing utensil correctly.

Making Applesauce
After several weeks of “practicing” making pretend applesauce during circle time, the Chickadees finally got to make the real thing.

First we had to wash the apples:

Then we put them in a pot to boil.

Then very carefully we put the cooked apples in the food mill and begin turning the handle, until the applesauce started coming out.  It was hard work.

Finally we got to try it.  Yummy!!
