October is here and the Robins’ class is in full swing. Here are some of the highlights from this week…
The letter of the week was “B”!
This week we introduced our magnetic letter pieces. The Robins love making the letters we’ve learned…
We even made letters out of playdough!
At circle time, the Robins sorted words that began with either the letter “A” or “B”…
To go along with “B”, the Robins learned the sign for bear. We did lots of bear themes activities this week.
Counting & sorting bears…
We made bear puppets…
Read many great books about bears…
We even made our own “Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear” books…
The Robins explored our sensory table filled with warm soapy water and a variety of other items, such as sponges, cups, brushes, and pipettes. They seemed to really enjoy pretending to “do the dishes like grown ups.”
We played color bingo, which incorporated skills such as listening, color recognition, counting, and one-to-one correspondence. It was particularly hard to keep from eating the marshmallows until the end, but we managed somehow.
Music & movement is an extremely important part of the Robins’ class. Here we are dancing and warming up for a game of musical carpet squares. The Robins love to dance!
This week we added cardboard tubes to the building area. It was incredible to watch the Robins go to work making ramps. As they built ramps and solved the problems that arose, the kiddos became scientists and engineers working with simple physics concepts like gravity, speed, stability, and balance. As they built the ramps steeper, they sat back and observed the outcome. Amazing! After trying a few times with toy cars, the Robins started to wonder if they could make small pumpkins go down the ramp.
This week we also continued learning about Fall and leaves. This week we marble painted leaves. Marble painting is a great way for the Robins to practice motor control while being creative. Look for these leaves on display in the middle room.
After reading the book, We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt, the Robins went on a leaf hunt of their own. First we stopped to check on our garden. The robins were really surprised to see how much our lettuce had grown since we harvested it last week.
We’ll be using the leaves we collected for some science and art projects next week.
Thanks for reading!
