ROBINS – Jamberry!

Today we celebrated the letter “J” by making jam and having fun with one of our favorite pieces of rhyming literature all about jam.  Here’s just a little piece of it.

JAMBERRY
By Bruce Degen

One berry
Two berry
Pick me a strawberry
Hatberry
Shoeberry
In my canoeberry
Under the bridge
and over the dam
Looking for berries
berries for jam.

We made strawberry jam.

We began by washing the berries.
The children used potato mashers to squish the berries to a pulpy consistency.

The children then squeezed fresh lemon to make their own lemon juice.
They stirred in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice into the strawberries.

Then the children measured and stirred in 2 cups of sugar.
We let the berries, lemon juice and sugar simmer for 5-10 minutes.

WALAA . . . strawberry jam!

The children spread saltine crackers with their warm strawberry jam.
What a wonderful, tasty treat . . .strawberry jam made from scratch by ROBINS in the kitchen!

Until next week….
