Two Weeks of Magic for the Dolphins!
It all started with a bean……
The Magic of Science and Literacy created quite a stir the last couple of weeks.
The well-loved fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk was the foundation for our fun, learning and many adventures. It all began with magical beans. Do you know what happens when you put beans in water? Your children do. Besides learning about the magic of bean seeds and planting our own, we had many other Jack and the Beanstalk adventures.
The children listened to many adaptations of the Jack and the Beanstalk stories. The children participated by dramatizing the story themselves and also by using magnetic story board characters. Children use and build many skills when dramatizing stories: memorization, language, self-confidence, and movement – just to name a few.
Have you seen the bean stalks in the middle and backrooms? The children helped create the magical bean stalks by painting the leaves for the stalks. They also placed cut-out photos of themselves climbing the stalk.
The magic show starring, Presto the Magician, was totally entertaining for the children.
They sat in rapt attention as their friends helped to perform magic tricks…..
Dolphins also enjoyed cotton candy…….
hat day…….
the making of magical wands…..
(paint, sequins and glitter almost always draw out the magic of creativity)
dancing with wands and ribbons …
(dancing builds skills in large motor movement, rhythm, and music awareness and appreciation)
making magical popcorn with Ms. Julie….
(an excellent science experiment and a lesson on prediction)
and building magic beanstalks…
(This was an excellent activity to encourage the children to predict and problem solve)
Magical moments, good friends and adventure….
That’s what we call, “summer fun!”
