Pumpkin Patch 2010

The weather couldn’t have been better for the annual Kidspace Pumpkin Patch field trip.  Dozens of happy preschoolers, parents and teachers visited the Bizi Farms Pumpkin Patch this week.

Much to our relief, the rain held out for a relatively mud-free experience.  After enjoying the maze, petting zoo, hay stack and hay ride, each child scoured the patch for their perfect pumpkin mate.  There is a science to pumpkin picking with large groups of preschoolers- The first rule being: You pick it, You haul it!  Not only does this save on our chiropractic bills, it gives the kids a chance to think about the ideas of size and weight, comparing and contrasting, and gravity!  Talk about real life science!  It only takes about 2 minutes of tugging for the most reluctant child to realize that picking that 15 pound pumpkin just isn’t worth it!  Eventually, they face facts and are delighted to find a sensibly sized baby pumpkin.

As a parent and freelance photographer at this event, I have to say, best Pumpkin Patch visit ever!  Thank you Kidspace.
