ROBINS – At the Top!

Where do you start your letters?

AT THE TOP!

Today the children used cheerios to reinforce the concept of starting at the top when we write our letters.

When the letters were completely traced with cheerios then it was time to eat them.  Most of the children agreed, that’s the best part of the activity!

How do you make the letter D?  Using a straight piece and a curve the children practiced making upper case D’s.  The key to this activity, just as when you are writing begin with the straight vertical piece then add the curve.  These “hands on” activities encourage understanding and increase brain memory for proper letter formation.  It is extremely important for the children to learn now how to correctly form a letter.  It is our goal that our children will enter kindergarten with proper skills so that they do not have to “re-learn” in kindergarten.

Remember that the curve goes to the right of the straight edge.

A final step . . . tracing the wooden letters with our fingers reinforce the proper writing skills. Where do you start your letters?  At the top! Great job everyone!         Miss Julie and Miss Crystal
