This week with the Robins was full of holiday fun…take a look!
We worked on our monthly drawing for December. This month we drew trees…
This week we explored measuring things with nonstandard units of measure. For example, we measured our height using candy canes. Our favorite part was the Robins asking to be measured again and again to see if they had grown.
Afterwards we made candy cane playdough by adding peppermint extract. The Robins took turns measuring and stirring the ingredients. Afterwards, they couldn’t wait to get their hands on this yummy smelling playdough!
We’re dreaming of a white Christmas! This week our sensory tub was filled with insta-snow, which is this really cool powder that forms a snow-like substance upon adding water.
We’ve been listening to lots of holiday music. The Robins love singing and dancing along, especially when we bring out the jingle bells!
The Robins acted out the song, “C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S.” This festive letter recognition activity was tons of fun!
More fun with winter themed puzzles..
Holiday tic-tac-toe was a bit hit. Many of the Robins had their first lessons in tic-tac-toe this week. After a few games, they really started catching on. For 4 and 5 year olds, playing tic tac toe requires a great deal of advanced cognitive processes such as planning, strategic thinking, and analyzing multiple outcomes.
Holiday patterns with unifix cubes…
Who doesn’t like to finger paint? This week we used our fingers to paint Christmas lights…
Making cinnamon tree ornaments was a truly hands-on, multi-sensory project. The kiddos were involved in every step, including measuring, mixing, rolling the dough, and cutting the shapes.
This would be a great at-home activity and it’s really fun for all ages. To make the dough, mix equal parts cinnamon and applesauce. Use cookie cutters to form shapes and add a small hole in the top for tying ribbon on them later. After letting them dry for a few days, you’ll have great smelling ornaments!
This week was all about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer! We read many different versions of the story and the Robins worked really hard making reindeer using their hands. This project was a great way for us to practice fine motor skills like tracing & cutting…
Thank you for reading! Until next week,
Miss Crystal & Miss Julie
