Today we celebrated the letter “J” by making jam and having fun with one of our favorite pieces of rhyming literature all about jam. Here’s just a little piece of it.
JAMBERRY
By Bruce Degen
One berry
Two berry
Pick me a strawberry
Hatberry
Shoeberry
In my canoeberry
Under the bridge
and over the dam
Looking for berries
berries for jam.
We made strawberry jam.
|
We began by washing the berries.
The children used potato mashers to squish the berries to a pulpy consistency.
 |
The children then squeezed fresh lemon to make their own lemon juice. They stirred in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice into the strawberries. |
|
 |
Then the children measured and stirred in 2 cups of sugar. We let the berries, lemon juice and sugar simmer for 5-10 minutes.
WALAA . . . strawberry jam! |
 |
The children spread saltine crackers with their warm strawberry jam. What a wonderful, tasty treat . . .strawberry jam made from scratch by ROBINS in the kitchen!

Until next week….
