ROBINS – N is for Nest

The letter of the week is N.  We studied about animals and their nests.

We discovered many animals make nests, like birds, frogs, snakes, penguins and squirrels.
We learned that nests are made from grasses, sticks, yarn and bird spit.  At circle time we tried our hand at making a large bird nest.  We didn’t use our spit though!

We thought it only appropriate to make Nests to nibble for our cooking project.

Here is what we needed …..

mixing bowl
shredded wheat
measuring cups
measuring spoons
1/4 cup coconut
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
muffin tin
foil

First we lined the muffin tin with foil.

We smashed shredded wheat!

In a mixing bowl we added the crumbled shredded wheat.
We stirred in the coconut and brown sugar and then Miss Julie poured in the melted butter.
We stirred everything together.

We pressed the shredded wheat mixture onto the bottoms and up the sides
of the foil-lined cups. Then we baked them in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes.

When cooled, we filled our nests with chocolate eggs.

If you make them at home try filling your nests with yogurt or fruit slices.

Until next week, cook something new and tell us about it.
