Here are some highlights from the past week in the Robins’ class… We made great use of our leftover pumpkins. We roasted seeds and used pumpkins to hammer nails into. What a fun and interesting way to practice fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination!
Beading is another great way to strengthen the muscles in our hands and the Robins love making presents for friends and family members.
The Robins rearranged the dramatic play area in the backroom so they could put on performances. The had so much fun setting up that they never actually got to the show…
The letter of the week is “B”! The Robins learned the letter, sound, and sign for “B” and we also introduced the wet-dry-try method in which children practice writing the letter of the week on a chalkboard with water, a towel, and chalk.
You just never know what will peak the children’s interest. The new pencil sharpener in the middle room has been a huge hit! The children have been lining up to get a turn… all of our pencils are nice and sharp!
We talked a lot this week about shapes and introduced some new foam shape manipulatives. It was really interesting to see what the children could make out of the pieces…
Faces…
Rocketships…
Pizzas…
Robots…
At circle time, our friend “Mat Man” helped us identify different shapes and then we sorted shapes based on their characteristics (straight edges & corners, curved edges and no corners, or curved edges, straight edges & corners).
Until next time… Miss Crystal and Miss Julie
