Schedule TourIt has been another fantastic week in the Robins’ class. This week was all about friendship, kindness, and problem solving…take a look!
A little music and movement starts our day off just right!
At circle time we talked about friendship and what it means to be a good friend. Afterwards, we engaged in some friendship themed table activities. Many of the Robins made “friendship bracelets” to give to a new friend in the Robins class. While making the bracelets, the Robins not only practiced concentrating for a period of time, but we gave the muscles in our hands some great exercise.
Each Robin also had the chance to paint a strip of paper with their name on it. Next week, we will use these to create a friendship chain.
This week we introduced drawing journals. The Robins are able to create one entry a day and when they are finished we date the page and write their words. The Robins love seeing their words written down! Our hope is that these journals will not only allow the children to keep a collection of their work, but at the same time encourage them to draw and be creative, while also fostering their enthusiasm about language and literacy.
We had our first experiences with our magnetic writing pads. These things are wonderful! The magnetic pieces allow the children to create all the capital letters and the small writing utensil helps us practice using correct grip. We will use these a lot as we make our way through the alphabet, but first we wanted to give the Robins a chance to freely explore these amazing tools.

Flubber! This ooey, gooey, slimy, stretchy stuff really put our fine motor skills to work and of course we practiced sharing and taking turns with our friends.

Getting creative with paper, scissors, and glue..
It’s amazing how small simple changes can inspire a totally different kind of play. A little bit of color transformed our sensory table full of rice into something new and exciting! We swapped the number puzzle for various containers that will help the Robins explore concepts like more/less, full/emptry, volume, and measurement.
P.S. This is really easy to do at home. All you do is add a few drops of food coloring to a bag of rice and shake it up.
Even a cut up plastic table cloth has the power to transform our playground into a car wash!
This week we spent a lot of time discussing conflict resolution and using our words to solve problems. We used puppets to demonstrate different problem solving strategies.
The kids loved it so much, they put on some puppet shows of their own.
